Thank you for your interest in the 2009 Deer Creek Challenge. Unfortunately, on June 30 the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners voted 2-1 to not allow the event to occur this year due to protests from residents in Deer Creek Canyon. These residents object to cyclists being allowed to ride on the road and feel any event would only exacerbate their issues. This decision is both disappointing and difficult for us to understand. We will work to better educate the Commissioners regarding the benefits the Deer Creek Challenge can provide to the community and charities it benefits and hope to see you in 2010.
We thank the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department, Colorado State Patrol, Inter-Canyon Fire Department, Jeffco Department of Roads and Highways, Jeffco Planning and Zoning and the Evergreen Fire Department for their support and work to make this event possible. We would like to thank Chairman Kevin McCasky for his leadership and support of the event and his endorsement that indeed it is events such as this with ample support from law enforcement, volunteers, and emergency personnel that will make Deer Creek Canyon a safer place to ride.
The BCC’s denial of road use doesn’t change the need of our charity partner – Brent’s Place. We encourage you to help our kids with cancer and learn more about this wonderful organization by visiting their web site on the link below.
